(Creston) A large storm with some embedded wind caused damage to the western edge of Creston Saturday evening. Roger Vachlek (va-hal-ek), a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says the storm caused damage to the northwest corner of the community.
“We know that there is some damage to some residences in town and some significant structural damage to the hospital as well as a few other buildings, “ stated Vachlek. “We will not have any official word on whether this was a tornado or just some extreme winds that moved through the region. We will be sending two representatives down there Sunday morning to conduct a storm survey to find out exactly what happened.”
City Officials in Creston say the storm swept through the town of 7,800 residents between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Hospital Officials say no one was hurt and the patients at the hospital were transported to Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, about 25 miles away.
