(Stanton) The steering committee for the proposed $2.7 million dollar Viking Lake Center project is starting to put the bid package together after receiving news this week that the Vision Iowa Board is granting them $513,900 for the new facility. Committee Co-Chair
Micky Andersen says they still need to raise $50,000 to meet the budget and he is confident the money will come in.
"They are actually looking at putting the bid packets together and then it will go to the city council for their approval before it goes out for bid," stated Andersen. "So we are about 60-days before we know when we can break ground."
The Viking Lake Community Center that will house a new public library, an area for the Good Shepard Preschool, a walking track, a gymnasium with a wellness center, and a community room. A portion of the bottom level will be a FEMA approved storm shelter for the entire community. The new facility is being designed for all ages to enjoy.
