(Atlantic) Atlantic Community School educators are getting a pay raise. The Atlantic School board approved a 4.5-percent package increase during last night regular session. The contract is a 2-year collective bargaining contract which runs through the 2013-2014 school year. The agreement also includes a pay raise for coaches. The pay scale for coaches goes from a BA+3 to BA+4 for 2012-2013, and BA+6 for 2013-2014 for coaches.
"I think that will put us in alittle better competition to attract folks to coach for us and work for us in our extra curricular activities," stated Atlantic Schools Superintendent, Dr. Michael Amstein. "You are never going to come up with a decent hourly rate when you work with extra-curricular activities. You do it because you love the sport or love working with kids. The contract is a fair and one that the district will be able to afford."
The school board also approved the pay rates for substitute teachers and para-educators, to keep them the same for the 2012-2013 school year. The board also voted to leave the drivers education fees at $350.00, the same as last year.
