(Atlantic) A comic book geared towards deterring teen drinking will be on display at Times Square Marquee beginning tomorrow morning.
Drug Awareness Program National Director Kent Gade from the Atlantic Elks Lodge worked with Robert Sambouni of Marvel Entertainment to create the famous comic book entitled ‘Hard Choices.’
“Him and I developed the comic book as far as wanting something the young people would realize it is not all that cool to drink beer. If you are underage it is not good for you. We tried to teach them how to make good decisions and the consequences of making bad decisions and that’s what ‘Hard Choices’ is all about. It’s a hard choice for kids today to stay away from alcohol and drugs, there are too many people pulling them towards that but ‘Hard Choices’ we hope will help keep them away”
Marvel Entertainment distributes the comic books to schools across the country. Gade says it has been successful.
“According to our statistics that we get from the federal government we feel that any type of educational program that is geared to the kids at that level, we know kids won’t read brochures, but they will read a comic book. We know that they won’t read a whole book but they’ll listen to it or they’ll watch it on television. So that’s the media that we use. We go to where they’re at.”
Gade explains that Marvel Entertainment contacted Siemens and the two have partnered together with the Elks Lodge to make the display at Times Square possible.
‘Hard Choices’ will be displayed for two minutes every hour during the month of April which is alcohol awareness month.
