(ATLANTIC) Cass County Engineer Charles Marker updated the Cass County Supervisors on some departmental activity at their meeting this morning.
Marker said a bid letting was held on January 18th for an asphalt overlay project on M56 to Marne north. The Supervisors approved a bid from Henningsen Construction in the amount of $1,777,820. Marker said they will borrow ahead out of the Farm to Market account to pay for the project.
“Our Farm to Market account is money that is generated through road-use tax money, a certain amount is kept in Des Moines to do only County projects that are Farm to Market, it is paid for out of that account directly from Des Moines,” explained Marker.
Marker said the late start date for this project is August 13th and they will have 50 working days to complete the project. Marker said in his construction program he has to do a five year construction program and the next planned project like this, out of the Farm to Market account, would be a three inch overlay on the Lewis road from Highway 71 over to Lewis. The plans for this project have not been completely laid out at this time.
Marker said they opened bids on Stock Pipe and Project Pipe this morning and the Supervisors approved the low bids from Metal Culverts, Inc. out of Missouri in the amount of $31,950 for Stock Pipe and $43,112 for Project Pipe.
And, Marker said the DOT has in their construction program a plan to replace a bridge on Highway 92 on the west edge of Massena. A public hearing on the project will be held on February 12th at the Massena City Hall.
In other activity this morning, Zoning Administrator, Rich Hansen updated the Supervisors on a zoning change request. Hansen said John Dvorak is requesting to have 4 ½ acres in the southwest corner of his property rezoned from General Ag to Light Industrial for a tire repair and car service area. The property is located off of Olive Street across from the Little League diamonds. A hearing on the zoning request will be held on February 9th.
