(ATLANTIC) The Iowa Supreme Court will be reviewing a decision from the Iowa Court of Appeals in which the Atlantic Community School District does not have to release the disciplinary action taken again employees involved in alleged strip search of several high school females.
The Appeals Court ruled that discipline cases were exempt from the state’s public records law except in the case of firings and dismissed a lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa.
Atlantic School Superintendent, Dr. Michael Amstein, said they believe it’s a continuation of the judicial process here in Iowa and they respect their right to do that.
“The District’s position is that we still believe what was found in the lower Courts that employee discipline records are protected and confidential and are listed in the Code of Iowa,” said Amstein. “I think it’s one of those things where we’re going to have to ‘hear it out’ and hopefully they’ll find what the lower Courts also found.”
No date has been announced as to when the Iowa Supreme Court will review the case.
