(Glenwood) A part-time Glenwood Community Schools audio visual support technician faces charges of sexually abusing a female student inside a school closest. Authorities say 19-year-old Andrew Schoening has been charged third-degree sexual abuse.
Court documents say a 15-year-old girl told Police that Schoening forced her to have sex in a closest at the high school.
Mills County Attorney Eric Hansen told the Omaha World Herald that regardless of consent, any sexual contact involving Schoening and the minor would constitute a crime because of the age difference. Council Bluffs Attorney Mike Murphy, representing Schoening, expects to prove that the sexual contact was “consensual.” Murphy hopes proving the encounter was consensual might result in a less severe penalty or exoneration.
Court documents state that Schoening admitted to Glenwood Police that he did have sex with the minor, and that he knew she was underage.
Schoening, a 2010, Glenwood High School graduate, identified himself as the technology coach for a group of students who cover sporting events. Students take turns running the video board, designing the graphics, shooting the videos and interviewing coaches. Glenwood is one of the only schools in Iowa that has a video replay screen.
Schoening is currently free on bond.
