(Walnut) Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker tells KSOM/KS95 news that an Avoca teen was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident near Walnut Thursday evening.
Danker says deputies were dispatched to the scene of the accident at 49914 Western Avenue north of Walnut at around 8:00 p.m. When they arrived they located 15-year-old Josephine Anzalone, of Avoca, who sustained some very serious injuries. Walnut rescue responded and Danker says a decision was made to contact life-net, and air-lift Josephine Anzalone to Creighton University Medical Center.
Danker says Anzalone struck a deer and lost control of her vehicle causing it to roll several times. She was ejected from the vehicle. Her father told Sheriff Danker that his daughter had left the house approximately two hours prior to the time deputies were called to the scene so authorities don’t know exactly when that crash occurred.
Sheriff Danker says the accident remains under investigation.
Josephine Anzalone is a student at Walnut and a member of the girls basketball team. Walnut school officials are postponing tonight's girl/boy doubleheader with East Greene
An account to help defray medical costs has also been set up at the Rolling Hills Bank in Walnut.
