(Mapleton) A Monona County woman is in hot water again after law enforcement found 13-dogs at her home in Mapleton.
Denise Withee was convicted of unloading 23 dead or dying dogs in a south-central Nebraska cornfield in 2008. The Monona County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were conducting a compliance check on Withee late last week when they found the dogs, which is a violation of her Nebraska probation. Withee’s mother also lives in the home, and both were cited for suspicion of animal cruelty.
Withee told the court during her 2008 animal cruelty trial that she was taking the dogs to someone in Nebraska when she became ill, and pulled over and passed out. She said when she woke up; most of the dogs were dead from the heat. She told the court that she panicked and dumped them.
