(Greenfield) Greenfield’s Police Chief says there are now three high school wrestlers who were victims of sexual assault by other wrestlers on their team at Nodaway Valley High School.
Chief Austin O’Brien says while the crime occurred December 19th, it wasn’t reported until one of the victims mother reported it January 4th. O’Brien tells WHO-TV that it’s been tough getting witnesses to come forward.
“We tried to get witnesses to come forward and neither the high school nor myself at the time could get people to come forward and give us a statement in regards to what they had seen,” stated O’Brien.
O’Brien says the three victims were sodomized by two fellow wrestlers as punishment.
“This incident involved two students at the high school assaulting three other students that were wrestlers in a sexual manor,” Said O’Brien. “We believe that this was done in an effort to punish these other wrestlers for an act that they did or did not do.”
All of the incidents occurred in the wrestling room of the high school. Chief O’Brien doesn’t believe the wrestling coach was involved or tried to hush things up.
“Throughout my investigation no where at any time talking to anyone that I chose to talk to knew of the details of this incident, never indicated that the coach knew anything about this.”
