(AUDUBON) The Audubon Chamber of Commerce/Audubon County Economic Development held their annual Community Banquet on Saturday.
This 2011 citizen of the year award was given to Lyle Hansen, Jr. Lyle was born and raised in Audubon County and has worked at Southwest Iowa Real Estate since 1974. He is a member of the Audubon County Economic Development Corporation where he has served as past president and was an inaugural member of the Audubon County Endowment Fund and also served as president of this organization. Lyle has served on numerous Board’s and has been recognized as an Eagle Scout in 1965, honored with the Outstanding Jaycee Award in 1974, a member of the National Eagle Scout Association, 2006 Iowa Lions Foundation Warren Coleman Service Award, and the 2007 Farm and Land Broker of the Year from the RLI/Iowa Association of Realtors. An excerpt from the nomination says, when asked to serve, Lyle has always been the first to help and can always be counted on not only to serve on a committee, but to be committed and active.
The Audubon Fire Department was the 2011 Community Service Award recipient. The Audubon Fire Department has 40 volunteer members, 9 of whom are EMT’s, two who are first responders, one who is a paramedic and two who are currently taking EMT classes. An excerpt from the nomination letter says, regardless of day or night, when the siren sounds, our firemen rush off to protect others and often times put themselves in danger. They respond quickly with trained, skilled and compassionate members using the best available equipment. The department contributes to the community in various ways, such as the AFD youth wrestling tournament, the Power Climb for Lung Cancer, water fights on T-Bone Days, kids’ water fights at the county fair, the annual pancake breakfast, golf tournament and poker run.
Special Recognition Awards were also presented to AMVC Cares, Audubon County Memorial Hospital, Audubon Foods, Audubon Recreation Center, Bee’s Trading Post, Burns Chiropractic, Tim Greene, Herbers Seed & Consulting, Jason Hocker (DVM, M.S.), Hometown Café, Horizon Equipment, Little Mermaid Trail, Puck Custom Enterprises, Swine Medicine Education Center, and West Central Cooperative.
