(UNDERWOOD) More information has been released on a fatal accident near Underwood Monday.
The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says are around 5 p.m. deputies located a 2005 Mazda in the west ditch along Railroad Highway near 240th. One subject, identified at 33-year-old Kirk Ring of Neola, was found conscious and breathing, but suffering from serious injury. Ring appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to Creighton by air ambulance.
A second male subject located nearby, who also appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle, had died from injuries. He was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the vehicle had been southbound on Railroad Highway at a high rate of speed prior to the accident. At this point it is believed that alcohol was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
