(Des Moines) This morning at the campaign headquarters of President Barack Obama, members of the National Organization of Veterans for Peace joined members of Occupy Des Moines and Iowa City. They arrived to find the doors were locked and the Obama campaign sign was removed from the building. One member, Sandra Berglund, scoffed at Newt Gingrich’s comments that the occupy members don’t want to work and need baths.
“That’s totally propaganda. I have worked 45 years, 20 years of that I worked two jobs. Many of our young people are college graduates who are working but they are working minimum wage jobs because they can’t find full time jobs. We all want to work, everyone in this country wants to work but you can’t work when there are no jobs available.”
Berglund also says she suffers from ageism.
“I lost my job, luckily I was able to retire. But I have looked for work, because of my age, I’m 64, there is no work for me.”
The group is planning at stay at the Obama headquarters all day.
