(Atlantic) Republican Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum stopped in Atlantic Sunday evening as part of his Faith and Family Freedom Tour. Santorum says the importance of our moral and family values has a lot to do with the nation’s economic condition. Santorum says there needs to be a plan to help the family.
“We can cut taxes and regulations and this sort of stuff and the economy is going to get better,” stated Santorum. “But we can never have a strong economy unless we have strong families.”
Santorum says if every American did two things they would not end up poor. “Graduate from high school, get married, and then have children, and there will be about no chance of poverty. Does anybody teach any of that, or talk about any of that?” Santorum adds, the poverty rate of single parent families is almost 40-percent. “Go to places in American where families are broken, what do you find everywhere…..government. It has to be there because someone has to pick up the pieces.”
“I say the most heroic people in America are moms and dads who are trying to do the job of two people to try and raise a family, provide, nurture, care and do it all with one person. It is not a job made for one person, it is a job made by god for two people.”
Santorum went on to say you can’t have limited government if don’t have strong families, and you can’t have limited government if you don’t have people living good moral virtuous lives. Santorum says government continues to grow and pass more regulations because they are trying to constrain bad behavior.
The former Pennsylvania Senator is making his stand ahead of the January 3, caucuses.
