(Harlan) Healthstream Research notified Myrtue Medical Center this week that they are receiving the Excellence through Insight Award. The award is given for overall patient satisfaction in Myrtue’s Medical Center inpatient medical unit.
“We are just extremely proud of all of our frontline staff, they work very hard to pursue excellence when caring for our patients and for them to be honored this way it just makes us very happy,” said Karen Buman, RN, BSN, Chief Nursing Executive at Myrtue Medical Center.
Buman said the staff has made a strong commitment towards serving customers.
“It takes a lot of commitment from all of our staff and from staff through all areas of the hospital. They work so hard with keeping patients at the forefront of what they do every day,” said Buman. “We’re just very proud of everything they have done; they have worked very hard for many, many years to get to this point.”
Myrtue representatives are being invited to take part in a panel to share some of the initiatives they have in place to provide excellence in customer service. Buman admits there are numerous initiatives, but one in particular stands out.
“We call them (the patient) within 24 hours to make sure they understand their discharge instructions, what they should be doing, how they should be caring for themselves…. so that we cannot have any readmissions in the future regarding what has been going on with the patient,” explained Buman.
The award will be presented at Healthstream’s Annual Convention in March.
