(Atlantic) The Atlantic Police Department is gearing up for two big projects this weekend, but in the meantime they have received two fresh Christmas trees to be given to a family in need. Atlantic Police Chief Steve Green announced today that the Zion Lutheran Church delivered the trees to the Police Department.
Chief Green says Saturday the Atlantic Police Reserves will be taking part in their annual Family Dream Christmas.
"We'll be taking some kids out and let them go with a police officer to Wal-Mart. We'll be giving them a certain amount of money. It will depend on the amount of kids we have this year."
The Chief says Sunday Atlantic Police will carry out the “Shop with the Cop,” project.
"We're going to take some families into downtown Atlantic and they'll spend a very substantial sum of money that we raise through donations from organizations and from big hearted people that realize they are blessed and are willing to share that blessing here at Christmas time. Take them out and make sure that their needs are filled and make sure everybody has as merry a Christmas as possible ."
Chief Green says if anyone is in need of a tree or you know of a family in need of a tree, contact the Atlantic Police Department at 243-3512, or stop by the Police Station. Donations are still being collected for the Atlantic Police Reserves “Family Dream Christmas,” and “Shop with the Cop,” program.
