(AUDUBON) It’s a busy time of year for area Post Offices and shipping deadlines are quickly approaching.
Val Langbehn, with the Audubon Post Office, says the deadline to send to an APO or FPO has passed, however you can still send a military package by Express mail through December 17th.
As far as the deadlines for regular mail, Langbehn said, “Priority is still going to be three to four days almost anywhere; in-state is going to be two to three days, so you still have time to mail before Christmas anything Priority. Now if you are going to send it Parcel Post, Parcel Post usually takes about 6 to 8 or 9 days and so that is rapidly approaching, you’re probably going to want to come see us today, or the 14th or the 15th in order to make sure we get it there by Christmas for you.”
Langbehn offers some advice to make your shipping process a lot easier, including using a sturdy shipping box. “We have Priority mail boxes here that are free to the public at the post office, we also have labels. Those are very sturdy to go through the mail,” explained Langbehn. “Do not use shirt boxes that you can get from different department stores; they’re just not sturdy enough to go through the mail at this time of year.”
Langbehn also said do not use strings or duct tape on your package. “I would suggest using either the clear packing tape or the packing tape that has the strings in it that is reinforced,” said Langbehn. “You would want to include your name and address inside the package too, if by some chance it came open during handling or something, so we can get the package to its destination.”
Langbehn also said to use bold marker on the shipping address and verify the zip code of the address you are sending the package to.
