(COUNCIL BLUFFS) The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of an attempted identity theft.
The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division was contacted by a Pottawattamie County resident advising that a phone solicitor posing as a representative for Medicare was calling and requesting confirmation regarding personal information over the phone. The solicitor requested confirmation on the parties address, bank account numbers and specifically the routing numbers on the bottom of the parties’ personal checks. The solicitor advised that the reason for this information was so a new Medicare Card could be issued.
The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office contacted Medicare and Medicare representatives advised that this is not a Medicare request and that the solicitor is not a representative of Medicare.
The Sheriff’s Office advises that is you receive this type of solicitation, do not release or give personal information over the phone to these individual(s).
