(AMES) The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Motor Carrier Services has resumed the permitting and movement of oversize loads in western Iowa following a disruption during this weekend’s winter storm.
Movement will be allowed on roadway surfaces classified as “normal or wet” (displayed in green) on Iowa’s traveler information website available at www.511ia.org. The entire movement of the permitted load must occur on roads classified as “normal or wet” for the permit to be executed.
Classification of a roadway surface as “normal” is influenced by seasonal conditions, and is currently defined as normal winter driving conditions. During the winter, motor carriers must still exercise caution and be aware of occasional patches of snow or ice, and shoulders that may not yet be cleared of snow.
