(Atlantic) Deter Motor Company and the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce have announced they are accepting nominations for the Annual ATHENA Award.
“Deter Motor Company has given this award for 10 years running to women who emanate the three criteria for an ATHENA recipient; professional excellence, community service and assisting women in realizing their true leadership potential,” Deter Motor Company owner Scott Deter said.
Nominations are due to the Chamber of Commerce by Friday, Dec. 16th at Noon. Former recipients and Deter Motor representatives serve on the selection committee.
Iowa Western Community College Atlantic Center Director Ann Pross was the recipient after serving nearly 25 years in the non-profit sector and for recent IWCC works in increasing local enrollment and exemplary growth in programming.
“The list of past recipients includes many strong leaders within the Atlantic Area,” Deter said. “Each year we see new nominations to choose from which says a lot for our community.”
The ATHENA Award was first presented in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan and has grown to include presentations to more than 5,000 individuals in hundreds of cities in the United States as well as in Canada, China, Russia and the United Kingdom. The award takes the form of a hand-cast bronze sculpture symbolizing the strength, courage and wisdom of the recipient. The ATHENA Award Program is nationally underwritten by KPMG.
Chamber Executive Director Megan Roberts said other awards will be given in conjunction Chamber Annual Dinner Jan. 21, 2012, the ATHENA being the capstone for the evening.
“As the only Iowa community to partner with ATHENA International, we are able to hold on to a strong tradition of valuing our professionals who use their leadership and make their community a priority,” Roberts said. “Deter Motor understands the value in recognizing those individuals.”
