At around 1:15 p.m., officers with the Metro Fugitive Task Force spotted a stolen Dodge Ram pickup, believed to be occupied by a subject who was wanted on outstanding felony warrants. Task Force members communicated with Council Bluffs police officers that this pickup had pulled into the drive-thru lane of a Burger King. Several Council Bluffs Police officers arrived at the parking lot, with Council Bluffs Police Officer R.G. Miller positioning his marked police cruiser blocking the drive-thru exit. Before Officer Miller could exit his cruiser, the driver of the stolen pickup accelerated rapidly, ramming the front of Miller’s cruiser. The driver, Roger Madsen, continued to accelerate and drove the front-end of the truck up onto and across the hood of the cruiser. The stolen truck came to rest after one of the front tires drove across and shattered the police cruiser’s windshield. Madsen was immediately apprehended on the Burger King lot.
A passenger, 27-year-old Jeffrey Vosler of Council Bluffs, fled the area on foot and was found shortly thereafter, hiding in the 1300 block of Avenue B. Vossler was arrested for Eluding and Interference with Official Acts.
Officer R.G. Miller was checked by paramedics at the scene. He did not sustain any serious injuries.
Metro area officers are still searching for one of Madsen’s known associates, Keith Baker, who is also wanted on outstanding felony theft charges. Baker is a 38-year-old white male, 5’ 10”, 200 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.
