(Harlan) The Harlan Community High School Gym will be turning blue tomorrow night. Kovember activities will wrap up Friday night with a blue-out during the high school basketball game at Harlan. The National Honor Society and Health Occupation Students of America chapters at Harlan Community School have hosted Kovember to raise awareness for men’s health and cancer research. Harlan High School Guidance Counselor Paulette Rasmussen says this is the second year for the blue out, in honor of Harlan Coach Mark Kohorst who underwent cancer treatment a year ago.
Rassmussen said. “The students wanted to do something in his honor, so instead of Movember, which is the National Men’s Cancer Awareness name, we call ours Kovember, after Coach Ko.”
Rasmussen says the T-shirts were delivered Wednesday and are paid for by Panama Transfer and Keast Ford. All the proceeds from the Kovember activities and blue-out basketball games will go to Shelby County Relay for Life, the high school relay team, earmarked through the American Cancer Society for men’s cancers.
