(COUNCIL BLUFFS) An Iowa State Patrol Trooper was injured during a chase in Council Bluffs today (Thursday).
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the Trooper, who has not been identified at this time, had initiated a traffic stop on the South Expressway at 23rd Avenue for a traffic violation. The driver of the White Dodge pickup took off and jumped the median. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle and ended up crashing the patrol car when the truck hit the car. The Trooper was sent to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the pickup led troopers westbound on Omaha Bridge Road heading for South Omaha. The pickup again jumped a median and headed westbound in the eastbound lane. Stop Sticks were deployed and flattened the tires on the pickup. The chase ended at 24th and L in Omaha.
The driver of the pickup, 36-year-old Carl Eugene Pelander Jr. of Council Bluffs, and a passenger, 25-year-old Katherine Elizabeth Lynn of Shenendoah, were both arrested without incident. Authorities later discovered that the Dodge pickup had been stolen.
