(Walnut) The Walnut School Board will share all athletics with A-H-S-T, and attend classes for approximately three periods a day there starting with the 2012-2013 school year. That was decided at the Walnut School Board meeting Tuesday night.
Walnut Schools Superintendent Jim Hammerich.says, "There was a vote on the shifting of academics from Atlantic to A-H-S-T for three periods in the afternoon, just like we have in Atlantic. The board decided on a two-year contract with A-H-S-T."
The Walnut school board then voted to continue sharing Junior High sports, and voted unanimously to send all boys sports to A-H-S-T, and after a long discussion, the board voted 3-2 to share all girls sports with the western Iowa Conference school. The move by the board will end the sharing agreements with Atlantic.
"It was just a better fit for our kids, all the logistics, transportation costs ect., and having Junior High already in Avoca all weighed in on the decision," says Hammerich.
"We want to thank the Atlantic School Board, and Superintendent, and the community for all of their the support the past four or five years, the experinence in Atlantic was wonderful."
Hammerich says future plans include the discussion of whole-grade sharing between A-H-S-T and Walnut.
