(Corning) The Corning City Council approved an easement to spend $20,000 of Community Development Block Grant Money to make improvements to the Community Center. Two-years ago the city of Corning received a $460,000 CDBG for façade improvements. Mayor Guy Brace says this money is federal housing money that can be utilized by business owners and government to upgrade their facilities.
“We are hoping that we can extend the life of the buildings number one, get a little more energy efficient, and add aesthetic value to our buildings downtown,” says Brace.
Twenty-Seven businesses in the Community have qualified for the $650,000 facade project. Cornerstone Construction of Corning is the general contractor for the project that is set to begin next spring.
In other activity Monday, the city council approved funding to make repairs to city hall. Mayor Brace says an estimated $20,000 will be taken out of the city’s budget to repair the siding, windows, shutters and doors. These repairs do not qualify under the CDBG.
