(Atlantic) There is currently a large scale cyber theft that has resurged involving an email virus.
Atlantic Police Chief Steve Green says it’s main target is businesses and anyone that does substantial ACH transactions from their computers. It is recommended that emails not be opened on any computer that also is tasked with the company ACH transactions unless they are from a well known source. Chief Green says this is not a new threat however; it appears to have resurfaced in great numbers.
Chief Green says the primary emails claims to be advising of a cancelled ACH transaction. Another suspect email claims to be the IRS. These emails give thieves access to routing numbers in the computer and allow them to re-route the ACH transactions.
All businesses and persons who make substantial ACH transactions should review their email procedures on any system connected to the financial computer.
