(ATLANTIC) Christmas in Atlantic events will take place this Saturday.
Megan Roberts, Chamber Director, says events will begin at 9 a.m. with breakfast with Santa at Hy-Vee and the Does cookie and candy walk and the events continue into the afternoon and evening.
“Our horse drawn wagon rides and Santa’s Cabin will be open from 3 to 5 pm at 6th and Chestnut Street, so folks can come out with their kids, have a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy those family times together. We will also have caricature artist at Santa’s Cabin, he will be doing drawings as people would like, that’s something new this year and we’re kind of excited to add that to all the festivity. And then that evening is our lighted holiday parade, so we’re looking forward to all the fantastic business floats in the beautiful lighted downtown Atlantic,” said Roberts. “The Atlantic Coca-Cola Museum will do soup-to-go in front of the new museum this year at 207 Chestnut and the Atlantic and Business Professional Women will do hot dogs and cider in front of Something for You on Chestnut Street. So people can come down for supper, enjoy the lighted parade, we do have fireworks to kick things off and those will be fantastic this year as well and then our living windows display will be 5 to 6 p.m. as well.”
Roberts said the Scrooge Contest ends on December 2nd and the winner will be the Grand Marshal of the parade. Scrooge candidates include Aaron Siggins of Hy-Vee, Janet Cappel of Cappels Ace Hardware, Nancy Fredrickson of Geis Perry Jewelry, Brad Peerbolte of Peerbolte Chiropractic, and Karen Nelson of the Handbag Ranch. Scrooge candidates are accepting donations for the Atlantic Food Pantry.
