Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says at around 12:30 p.m., Deputy Miller was doing traffic control on Interstate 80 around the 9 mile marker when he stopped a 2010 Chevy Malibu for speeding.
“Deputy Miller went ahead and issued some citations and then requested permission to search the vehicle. He was allowed to search the vehicle and he located 55 pounds of hydroponic marijuana in some vacuum sealed bags located in the vehicle,” said Sheriff Danker. “The occupants were placed under arrest for Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Tax Stamp Violation and Prohibited Acts
Danker said the driver was Somphavanh Childs and the passenger was Samson Phommabout, both of Utah. They are currently being held in the Pottawattamie County Jail.
In other activity, a Council Bluffs man was arrested on Monday for breaking into a house on River Road and stealing metal from the home. “The owner observed a vehicle there, he stopped by and the suspect took off and hid in the creek,” said Danker. “Deputies and a Trooper located him and he was arrested.” The individual was identified as 23-year-old Joshua Thompson.
