(ATLANTIC) ISU Extension is hosting an open house called “CyDay Friday” in conjunction with the ISU game on Friday, November 18th from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Cass County Extension Office.
There will be free burgers from the Beef producers, door prizes, photos with Cy and a live broadcast with KSOM from 11 to 1 with an ISU Football ticket giveaway.
Kate Olson, Cass County Extension Program Coordinator, said part of the event is to get people to understand what all Extension can do.
“Historically we are known for youth programming through 4H and for a lot of our Ag and continuing education programs, but Extension has really sort of broadened its horizons,” explained Olson. “We have a lot of great programs for families, for youth outside of 4H, a lot of great educational opportunities, a lot of publications and resources, we do a lot with gardening, of course we have a lot of resources for farmers, we have a lot of resources as far as families and parenting, a lot of resources as far as family financial management, those are probably some of our biggest growing areas and most popular areas that a lot of people don’t know about.”
Olson says everyone is invited to attend. “Even though it is CyDay Friday and we are kind of tying it in with the Iowa State game, Extension certainly serves all Iowans,” said Olson. “So, even if you don’t want to wear your cardinal and gold, we want to invite everybody in the community to come out and have a free meal and learn a little bit more about what we are about and find out something maybe that they didn’t know that Extension did that could be a resource to them in the future.”
Olson sends a special thanks to Hy-Vee, Coca-Cola and Wal-Mart for donating lunch items for this event.
