(WALNUT) The Walnut School Board met with the AHST School Board Tuesday night to discuss sharing possibilities.
Walnut Superintendent Jim Hammrich said they discussed a possible sharing agreement with AHST that would look a lot like the current sharing agreement they have with the Atlantic School District, which includes having the 9th through 12th grade students sharing for a ½ day.
“I think the Board felt that our proximity was key; being so close, and of course their classification, not being a 3A school, we probably would have more students participate. I think we had 3 kids that played football and we felt like maybe if they were at a different school where they might be able to compete a little better we would have a few more kids out, so that was certainly an issue. And possibly sharing staff, again being so close that was an option which would be a little more difficult than Atlantic because of the distance,” explained Hammrich. “So, nothing negative in either way, just what might work better for our kids.”
Hammrich said they already met with the Atlantic School Board to discuss the same possibilities. He said they plan to make a decision at their Board meeting on the 21st so they can give each School District a heads up on their plans.
