(Des Moines) The first snow of the season is expected across parts of Iowa this evening. The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for a handful of counties including the following in western Iowa. They include; Adair, Audubon, Carroll, Cass, Crawford and Guthrie Counties.
Forecasters say the snow will begin to fall in west Central at around 9:00 p.m. and in northeast Iowa by about midnight. The snow will taper off quickly to the northeast on Wednesday morning. A band of 2 to 4 inches of heavy wet snow is expected...with locally heavier amounts possible. Strong north to northeast winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour with higher gusts will lead to reduced visibility at times.
The Weather Service warns that roads could become slick which could lead to hazardous driving conditions. Particular caution should be exercised with this being the first snow of the season.
