(Atlantic) Atlantic fire fighters were called to an early morning fire outside of the Salvation Army in Atlantic this morning.
Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees says a passerby spotted the fire in the drop off area on the westside of the building at around 2:30 a.m. "Quite a few items were dropped off on Sunday, including mattresses and furniture," stated McNees. "When we arrived one of the bins and the pile was on fire and the flames were shooting over the roof, but it was all contained to the outside."
McNees said the cause of the fire is undetermined and he is currently ruling it accidental. "I suspect somebody was smoking when they dropped off some items and flicked one out and it could have smoldered quite a while before the fire took off."
