(Atlantic) An Atlantic Middle school student is in custody in connection with the bomb threat that was discovered this morning at the Middle School.
The suspect has been identified at 12 year old Austin Koma Mualia. He has been charged with Terrorism, a Class B Felony, and is now under the supervision of Juvenile authorities.
“Basically we looked at the hand writing and compared it with some probable suspects and some other things came together where we were able to identify a prime suspect,” said Atlantic Police Chief Steve Green.
Chief Green says when officers approached the Nishna Valley Family YMCA where the students were being kept during the investigation, the suspect fled the scene. “When officers approached the YMCA to speak with the suspect he took off on foot. He was later located at his residence and was brought down to the Police Department,” said Green. “He has confessed to writing the situation and that there is no threat to the safety of the other children or anything else.”
All students and employees were evacuated from the school to the YMCA where the students were dismissed at 12:30.
