(Des Moines) The Iowa State Patrol has released more information on the fiery crash that killed a state trooper near Indianola, on September 20.
According to the crash report, Trooper Mark Toney was traveling at 115 to 120 mph and overcorrected before his squad car left the highway. However, the investigation doesn't say why Toney turned on his lights or why his car left Highway 65.
Witnesses say Toney turned on his emergency lights and turned around a mile south of the crash site, but no one could describe a vehicle that he was preparing to stop. One witness says Toney dropped a wheel off the shoulder, but there was no evidence to support that.
An autopsy showed Trooper died of blunt force trauma.
