(Atlantic) The Schildberg Committee is making plans to build a Campground at the old Schildberg quarry. Monday night, Atlantic Park and Rec. Director Roger Herring says Phase I of the project is to build 18-gravel pads on the Southeast Corner of North Chestnut and Iowa Avenue.
"We would like to open that up to a camp ground consisting of 18-gravel pads with modern facilities including; water, and electric. The goal is to open it up and start generating some revenue," stated Herring.
Herring says the plan would be to have the campground in place next year, and build a permanent restroom facility with showers. Herring says portable restrooms would be used in the interim.
"If you would survey the people that use the facility, the number one priority would be a restroom facility."
Herring says the Rotary Club has been kind of enough to ear mark their Rotary Auction Raffle to be designated for the Schildberg Recreation Campground. "There is a possibility of raising a sizeable fund to get the campground up and running," says Herring.
The public can purchase raffle tickets from any Schildberg Committee member or a Rotarian.
