(Harlan) The Harlan Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with a breakfast at the Fire Station Sunday morning. Chief Roger Bissen says the purpose of the breakfast was to raise awareness. Throughout the week, the fire department will be talking to pre-school through 6th grade students.
“We’re going to be out at the schools and we are going to have trucks out there and talk about fire safety and fire danger in the home and what to do if you do have a fire in your home.”
The Harlan Fire Department has gone to the schools for almost 20 years. Chief Bissen says it is making a difference as older students are now able to answer the questions they ask.
Fire Prevention Week runs October 9th-15th.
