(Adair) The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of a car that struck a semi on Interstate 80 near Adair on September 26, says he fell asleep.
A passenger in the car, 17-year-old Stephanie Pathammavong was ejected from the vehicle. She was air-lifted from the scene and pronounced dead at a Des Moines Hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol says 21-year-old Bobby Vangkham of South Sioux City, Nebraska told investigators he was "daydreaming and fell asleep."
Vangkham lost control of the eastbound car, which ended up in the westbound lanes and collided with the semi. The accident which happened shortly before 3:00 p.m., closed the westbound lanes of traffic for several hours.
