(DALLAS CO.) Three people were injured in a five vehicle chain reaction accident in Dallas County Saturday.
The Iowa State Patrol says 63-year-old Burl Corrigan of Dawson was transported to Iowa Methodist by Mercy 1 Helicopter. 63-year-old Tanna Corrigan was transported to Iowa Methodist by Dallas County EMS. And, 8-year-old Elizabeth Corrigan was transported to Blank Children’s Hospital by Dallas County EMS.
According to the report a Ford pickup driven by 68-year-old Dennis Furrow of Woodward was stopped in the 15500 block of westbound Highway 141waiting for traffic attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway. Furrow was followed by a Dodge Pickup driven by 62-year-old Dennis Lauer of Winterset, who was followed by a Chevy Pickup driven by 46-year-old Rex Fallis of Des Moines, who was followed by a Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Burl Corrigan. The fifth vehicle, a Ford Pickup driven by 63-year-old Carroll Dean Snyder, was approaching the stopped vehicles and attempted evasive maneuvers of panic braking in an attempt to stop. Due to apparently defective brakes, Snyder was unable to stop and rear-ended the Corrigan vehicle, causing each vehicle to strike the one in front of them. The Corrigan vehicle was thrown into the north ditch where it came to rest. The front seat occupants of the Corrigan vehicle had to be extricated by use of non-mechanical means.
A defective brake line could be seen on Snyder’s vehicle. He was cited for Defective Braking Equipment.
