(ATLANTIC) A four month old child was taken into protective custody during an investigation into child abuse at a home in Atlantic.
On Tuesday, Atlantic Police accompanied Department of Human Service personnel to investigate an allegation of child abuse. The visit resulted in the attending officer taking a four month old child into protective custody. An investigation ensued involving both entities along with the medical staff at Cass County Memorial Hospital. The investigation showed that the child suffered abuse and serious injury.
As a result of the investigation, the parents; 21-year-old Tony Berry and 20-year-old Alyssa Bates, were placed in the Cass County Jail pending hearings.
Berry faces charges of Multiple acts of Child Endangerment, Willful Injury, two counts of Serious Assault and 1stDegree Harassment. Bates faces charges of Multiple acts of Child Endangerment, Willful Injury, and two counts of Serious Assault.
The child has been placed with the Department of Human Services pending the outcome of the hearings.
