(DES MOINES) With harvest quickly approaching, now is the time for manure applicators to complete annual training and make sure they are certified.
All commercial manure applicators and anyone applying, transporting or handling manure from a confinement site needs to have a current certificate.
Those not currently certified and new applicators should complete training now to land apply manure after harvest. Commercial applicators are reminded to make sure all employees have completed their training and are properly certified.
Confinement site applicators can still complete their annual training to fulfill their three-year training requirement and avoid a make-up test when renewing their certificate.
Training is offered through Iowa State University Extension. Applicators should contact their local Extension office to see when training is offered and to make an appointment.
Or, applicators can take a test at a DNR field office. Call ahead to make an appointment. In southwest Iowa, call the Atlantic office at 712-243-1934
Certification is complete when the forms and fees have been submitted to the DNR.
About 2,500 commercial and 2,400 confinement site manure applicators are trained and certified every year.
