(MILLS CO.) Mills County Emergency Management reports a breach in the south berm of St. Mary’s Drainage District located south of Allis Road and west of 182ndSt. in northwestern Mills County.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 30 foot section of the berm gave way due to saturation from ongoing flooding conditions and recent heavy rainfall events. As of today, 182ndSt. and Gaston Avenue have been closed due to fast moving water over the roads. Residents in this area have been contacted and advised to make preparations to evacuate.
“This breach is not part of the main Missouri River levee system,” said Larry Hurst, Mills County Emergency Management Coordinator. “Levee District personnel and the National Guard continue to patrol the main levee system to assure its integrity and there are no active repair projects underway at this time.”
The Emergency Operations Team will continue to monitor the situation and will take any appropriate actions necessary to assure the safety of Mills County residents.
Residents are encouraged to call the Mills County Flood Center Hotline at 211, or access the website at www.millcoia.us. Both options will provide additional information, help for those in need, opportunities for volunteer sign up and a place to list available resources.
