MARATHON SOFTBALL GAME SLATED FOR NOON SATURDAY
(Panama) Panama’s marathon softball event will be held this weekend. The game starts at noon on Saturday.
The marathon softball game began on July 4th, 1976 and raises money by charging players $1 for every four innings they wish to play. Ron Chamberlain is a historian of the event, he says over $100,000 has been raised since the event began. This year they will be raising money for a new fire truck for the Panama fire Department.
The teams are divided by whether you live north or south of Main Street in Panama. Chamberlain says it’s an event for all ages and play usually continues into the early morning hours on Sunday. He expects a crowd of 400 to 500 people when you combine players and spectators.
