(Greenfield) The City of Greenfield is celebrating the 15th year of the Festival of Lights on November 29th.
Greenfield Chamber/Main Street Director Stacie Hull said their main event is the Lighted Parade, but they have several events before and after.
The Grand Theatre offers a movie at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m., the Business Women do free cookies and cocoa at around 4:45 p.m. outside of the Grand Theatre, there will be Santa visits following the parade at the Warren Cultural Center, Adair County Mutual will hand out free books to all of the kids that visit Santa, and The Corner will offer a soup and sandwich supper following the parade.
The Lighted Parade is at 5:30 p.m.
“This year’s theme is Believe in the Magic, so it’s kind of open depending on what you think the magic of Christmas or the magic of the season is. You can decorate your float however,” said Hull. “There’s always a lot of fun giveaways and things at the parade. Our FNB does a special golden ticket giveaway where they actually give away golden tickets and you can submit them to have the opportunity to win Green Bucks for shopping for the season, so that’s kind of fun. There are also other people that pass out candy and other trinkets and things.”
Stacie Hull said this event also kicks off their “A Town of Extras” play about the filming of Cold Turkey in Greenfield and what it was like to have Hollywood take over the town.
“It’s funny and there’s just a lot of good character to it about how it kind of changes your town and our perspective sometimes versus maybe west coasters and just some fun little plays on that and how it affected our community and how it still kind of does; the pride that we have and how our town was featured with the square and the beautiful buildings and the people,” said Hull.
The play is November 29th and 30th at 7:00 p.m. and December 1st at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 30th is Small Business Saturday. Stacie Hull said they will have some Shop Small swag they will be giving away; several stores will be doing in-store specials and special giveaways; and there will be a Holiday Artist Showcase at the Warren Cultural Center Gallery featuring all Iowa artisans.
