Exira-EHK meets Audubon in Week 3

(Exira) 1-1 Exira-EHK hits the road for a short trip this Friday night. The Spartans will take on 2-1 Audubon.

Exira-EHK coach Tom Petersen is very complimentary of this week’s opponent. The Wheelers after all are coming off a shutout win over #2 Fremont-Mills. “You try to look at some things that possibly you could exploit and there’s just not a lot of flaws there.”

Exira-EHK is also coming off of a big win. The Spartans downed Sidney 46-44 last week and coach Petersen was especially pleased with their quick start. “We jumped out ahead 20-0. In the first quarter I was kind of excited the way our kids came out and played right out of the gate. We ran the opening kickoff back, we held them on downs, and then we went down and scored on two or three plays.”

Creighton Nelson starred for the Spartans one week ago with the senior carrying the ball 16 times for 114 yards and three touchdowns, catching 12 passes for 203 yards and two scores, and registering a 70 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Nelson was also among the bright spots defensively against the Cowboys. Ethan Marxen led the team with 14.5 tackles, Cade Bruns had 13.5, and Nelson posted 13 stops.
