(Audubon) The Audubon boys basketball team kicks off their season with a busy schedule this week.
The Wheeler will oppose South Central Calhoun Monday, Missouri Valley on Tuesday, and host Tri-Center on Friday. Coach Coleman Mullenix notes the team will have a lot of scoring to replace with the losses of Tate Killeen, Lane Lawson, and Noah Muzney. Audubon does bring back eight players with returning varsity experience. The guys that saw the most action are Kaiden Smith, Marcus Olsen, and Skyler Schultes.
“I know that we have a group of athletes and competitors as shown by the success throughout football season. I’m confident in our ability to be ready and compete to win games night in and night out.”
Kaiden Smith averaged 11.9 points per game last year and may be in line to take on a lead role this season. “He’s a really good athlete. It doesn’t take long to notice that and he uses it to his advantage. He’s a really good passer which is great for our team. He’s a pass-first guy and looks to penetrate which will be beneficial for us.”
Treynor is a widespread favorite in the Western Iowa Conference, but the race for 2nd could be up for grabs. Coach Mullenix says there is never a night off in the WIC. The Wheelers finished 16-7 last year.
