Atlantic School Board Approves Hiring Facilities Project Liaison

(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved the hiring of retired Athletic Director Bob Sweeney for the district’s facilities project liaison position.

Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says over the past few months the board has been talking about the need to have someone provide oversight and communication between the key players in the project.

“I’m recommending Bob Sweeney who knows these facilities probably better than most people in our community,” said Barber. “Bob is a detailed oriented guy with a passion for Atlantic and the school district. He’s a good communicator and will serve this role very well.”

Mr. Sweeney will receive $22.50 per hour, with the finalization of an agreement stating roles and responsibilities. Sweeney will begin his duties at the bid opening on September 26.

In April, school district patrons passed a $9.5 million bond issue to renovate the school’s athletic facilities and parking area at Washington Elementary.

The plan called for upgrades to the baseball/softball complex, a new parking area at Washington Elementary, a safer unloading and loading area for middle school and Elementary students, and new synthetic field turf at the high school soccer field and Trojan Bowl.

Project Official’s conducted a pre-bid conference on Tuesday, for the three-phase project. The bid opening is scheduled for September 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the High School Media Center. A special board meeting is planned for October 2nd to review the bids and possibly award the project.
